What to Expect

Everyone has a different relationship with food, but I firmly believe that this relationship, in particular, needs to be enjoyable! During our time together we’ll work to create the best plan for you and your lifestyle. My goal is to develop a partnership that will allow us to explore and discover ways to make you healthy and happy.
Generally my clients know and understand what is healthy and what is not (and if you don’t that’s okay!), the problem is actually applying that knowledge to their lifestyle.
On a daily basis we are bombarded with conflicting nutritional messages about what is and what is not healthy for you. This can be extremely confusing (red wine is good for our heart but bad for our stomach...) My job rests in sifting through this deluge and combining it with your lifestyle, medical history and food preferences into a plan. I do not believe in deprivation and nothing is ever forbidden. Instead you’ll learn how to include your favorite foods in your daily life.
Our First Session
So what should you expect? During our first session we’ll jointly develop a set of goals (including of course your specific weight and health targets) by reviewing your medical history, what I like to call your “food personality”, and lifestyle that will inform an individualized plan that I will develop for you. This plan can be as comprehensive as you like and will in its most basic form comprise of meal plans, shopping lists and exercise options . If you eat out often, we discuss restaurants and look up menus; if you enjoy cooking I can provide you with recipes. I love food and feel that eating should be fun so we’ll work to develop plan that will keep you healthy and happy. My goal is to make this process simple and straightforward, one that allows you to integrate it seamlessly into your daily life.
After the initial consultation you will walk away with a completed meal plan and extensive shopping list so that you can get started immediately.
Adjusting to Your Tastes
At the end of the initial 90-minute session you’ll walk away with the tools necessary to begin down the path to a healthier lifestyle. For each 30-minute follow-up session we’ll discuss what’s working, what’s not and continuously tweak and change your plan to address your needs. Ultimately the goal is building the confidence and educational base, not just learning the what’s but also the why’s, to stand on your own, though my door will always be open for check-ins.
Your Food Personality
I like to get a sense of your “food personality” , the foods you love and hate, what keeps you the most satisfied and what triggers you to eat more. If you like to dine out, we go through menu choices. If you like to order in, we go through options near your home and office. Do you like to cook, we discuss recipes. If you are traveling for the next few weeks, we talk about what to bring, how to eat at hotels and at business outings. The overlapping key is strategy and having a plan and having confidence in your plan and also knowing what do to when your situation changes and you need a new plan. It is also learning together what makes you successful. Do you need structure, do you need room for flexibility, do you get bored with foods and need to constantly switch things up, do you have trouble leaving food over on your plate, do you mindlessly eat at night, is your hard time during the hours of 4-8pm, do you get stomach aches after you eat, etc?
The time we spend together should be open, truthful and candid, everything we discuss will be completely confidential. I look forward to working with you and assisting you on your journey to a healthier more confident lifestyle!
