What a horrible name for a wonderful vegetable! Brussel sprouts are part of the cabbage family and are filled with vitamin A, C, fiber, potassium and iron to name a few. On their own, they can be a bit boring but when mixed with spices, herbs, nuts, honey and cheese, their flavors comes alive.
I learned a great trick from a family friend. He first cooks them in the microwave for about 6 minutes to speed things up. This also helps to keep them moist, before baking or sauteing them. Thanks Steve! They are available all year round but peak season is September-February. For some great Brussels Sprouts recipes, check out my recipe page.
